History of Rampart Surveys


Rampart Surveys, Inc. was established in June 1997 by Kevin Lloyd, PLS. Kevin began working in the field of Land Surveying in 1975 and earned his Colorado PLS license in 1990. 

Rampart Surveys, Inc. was sold to Eric Simonson, PLS and Russ Wood on January 3rd, 2018 and re-established as Rampart Surveys, LLC. Eric and Russ were both long-term employees of Inc.. Their backgrounds include all aspects of land surveying applicable to our service area.  We pride ourselves in providing high-quality service and support to our clients, whatever their surveying needs may be.


We occupy a single office in Woodland Park, Colorado. As of January 2020, Rampart Surveys, LLC has five (5) full-time employees comprised of Eric, Russ as Managing Members and Field Crew Chiefs, Randy as Field Crew Chief (all with field to finish skills), a Customer Liaison/Research Specialist, an Office Manager/CAD Tech, and a CAD Tech/Field Crew member.


Our equipment includes three (3) Trimble GPS systems, two (2) Trimble robotic total stations and two (2) Sokkia conventional total stations, all with electronic data collectors. Multiple computer workstations are networked in the office for data reduction and plotting. Digital data transfer is available by disk or e-mail in AutoCAD Civil3D 2016 format. Field crews are provided with fully stocked 4WD trucks to ensure that they have the ability to complete their work effectively.


Utilizing this excellent team of people and equipment, we have the capability to complete all aspects of boundary surveys and land survey plats, topographic surveys, design surveys, ALTA surveys, preparation of various plats, subdivision layout, preparation of legal descriptions and exhibits for various purposes and minor and major construction staking projects.

Potential Employment

Professional Land Surveyor – MUST BE LICENSED IN COLORADO

As a PLS, you will help manage an office to produce drawings for Boundary and Topographic Surveys, Construction layouts, Subdivision Plats, Right-of-Way plans, Legal Descriptions and ALTA Surveys. This position will be mostly in office, with some field work if needed.

Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare, stamp and sign various survey types
  • Prepares/record surveys with appropriate county authorities
  • Prepare/file monument records in accordance with state statute
  • Researches city ownership, right-of-way, and other real property issues
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates the work activities of assigned survey staff
  • Provides technical advice and direction to assigned survey personnel
  • May testify in court as an expert witness regarding land surveys
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Licensure: Colorado Professional Land Surveyor (PLS), required.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a PLS, supervisory/lead work experience preferred
  • Proficiency with GPS, Robotic Total Station and Data Collectors
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, preferably CIVIL 3D
  • Ability to use Trimble Business Office to process files and work establishing or converting coordinate control
  • Ability to organize/review field notes, red construction/right-of-way plans, and coordinate/direct field crews
  • Experience performing Boundary Research
  • Strong math skills
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Knowledge of state statues, federal regulations and codes related to land surveying.

As a crew chief, you will lead a crew performing many different varieties of surveys and staking. You will be responsible for productivity, operation and maintenance of survey equipment, taking field notes, data collection, and performing calculations. Office involvement will include performing calculations, copying and filing of data.

Responsibilities include:
  • Direct field crew by assigning responsibilities and overseeing all work performed
  • Perform survey activities such as: leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, profile and cross section surveys
  • Perform physical tasks such as: line clearing, pounding stakes, setting monuments, and locating critical underground objects
  • Works both indoors and outdoors in varying types of weather. Considerable walking and standing in varying types of terrain.
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Ability to pass a Drug Screen and a Criminal Background Check
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience including boundary, topographic, and ALTA surveys, construction staking, and data collection required
  • Must be hard working, dependable, and possess a valid Colorado Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Highly proficient in mathematics and measurements
  • Knowledge of survey ethics, technical standards and construction procedures
  • Proficiency with GPS, Robotic Total Station and Data Collectors
